Here are some examples of animations I have helped to realize over the years!
I am interested in all parts of the process, but with larger teams I usually land somewhere between storyboards and rough animation, heavy on the characters, environments and color scripts. I don’t draw a hard line between commerce and art, but I do try to hold out for projects that aspire to balance the two 💰 ⚖️ 🎨
This project was my deep dive into learning 3D (modeling, texturing, shading, rigging, animation) and stress testing a style that would mimic my digital painting process.
The final product is a trailer for my catch-all futuristic narrative The Space Explorers.
I designed the human characters for this spot that asks us to question our obsession with new devices.
Then they were built as puppets!
I helped to develop a visual language around the prompt of “cinematic cut paper” for this musical episode about three kids learning civic responsibility in the aftermath of a hurricane.
After working on characters and style tests I transitioned into an art director role to lead the growing design team and coordinate with other departments through the rest of the production.
This was a test to combine 2D character animation with a 3D environment, and also a fun exercise in pushing the interest (and duration) of a single shot.
I made a process video that did well on youtube, reaffirming my hunch that there is interest in this direction!
A small team of illustrators and animators inhabited the illustrious Mailchimp illustration system and came up with this video celebrating small businesses in the early days of the pandemic.
To keep the raw hand-drawn energy of the styleframes we developed a pipeline for doing the animation clean-up in Procreate.
I helped with production design for this experimental sci-fi anime that has been making its way around the world as an interactive exhibition.
I led the storyboards and design on this spot about how the online bank can make saving for future goals simple and seamless.
Then I helped to animate the shots with hands, a challenge I very much enjoy!
With downtime on a longer booking, I proposed this short animation based on the greek myth. This was an invaluable chance to practice character animation with many rounds of feedback from everyone in the studio.
It was later licensed for the FX animation anthology Cake.
I pitched this collaboration for a short narrative animation, with the goal of attracting new work for both the studio and myself!
It won the 2017 Motion Award for the Short Film category and cemented my interest in designing for animation.
